Nurture Council was able to sustain many past activities and
add some new directions with new members participating in
the work of the council during 2006.
In addition
to regular Sunday morning classes, Sunday School activities
included a Teacher Appreciation luncheon, a Sunday School
breakfast, and an intergenerational Sunday School event
centering around the sacraments. A new adult Sunday School
Class was added for the 2006-07 Sunday School year. This
class, called the “BBC” or Basic Bible Class, was organized
and taught by Mary Love. Attendance in BBC through the fall
months ranged from 7 – 10 adults.
The Youth
Group and Children’s Fellowship continued under the
direction of Gary Cook. There was a large and enthusiastic
core of adult leaders on the Youth Team. Their mission trip
this year was to West Virginia. Children’s Fellowship
format has changed a bit due to a smaller and younger
population in this age range. Children’s Fellowship has
been meeting on Wednesday afternoons for an hour with a
light snack before dismissal.
Cottage
Suppers occurred during the months of February and March
with good participation and favorable responses.
The Church
Retreat at Camp Loucon was well attended with approximately
35-40 members participating. The program centered around
times of Sabbatical with Jane, Carlos, and Peter sharing
their Sabbatical experiences.
Nurture
Council Sponsored a Pentecost Picnic to follow the outdoor
Pentecost Service planned by Worship Council.
The
Friendship Book continued with a new twist. A day of
cooking and kitchen fellowship was held at church in order
to stockpile some entrees, desserts, etc. in the freezer for
times of greatest need. Seven people participated in the
event and the food was used on several different occasions.
Lucy
Steilberg spearheaded a kitchen clean-out to prepare for
replacing utensils or equipment that was too worn or
outdated to be useful. Purchasing these items was delayed
until the completion of kitchen renovation and painting
work. Session had allocated $500 for this purpose.
Sponsorship
of 2nd Wednesday suppers was taken on by Nurture
Council. Saundra Duverge, Ada Asenjo-Bartlett, and Martha
Neal Cook assumed the responsibility for these meals.
A photo
directory was completed to facilitate members recognizing
and knowing one another by name.
An on-going
item of discussion and study during the year was the idea of
working toward the re-establishment of the office of Deacons
at CHPC. After much brainstorming, conversation, prayer and
study (We read Changing Times, New Approaches: A Handbook
for Deacons by Jay Van Groningen), Nurture Council
recommended that Session appoint a special committee to
structure what the role and function of deacons will be at
CHPC. |
