Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church

Deacons Annual Report 2011

The Book of Order indicates that the ministry of deacon as set forth in scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ.  The deacons of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church have responded to this calling by continuing the Friendship Ministry in which the deacon of the month and volunteers from the congregation pair up throughout the year to offer support and encouragement to members needing care.  Homebound members of the congregation are visited or contacted throughout the year and a deacon tries to be present during funerals to offer support to the grieving family.  Recognizing the ministry of meals and food, we have also arranged to offer the CHPC family opportunities to fellowship and connect by organizing the weekly After Church Refreshments, the July Suppers, and the Cheesy Christmas Chili, Carols, and Cookie Exchange.  The Crescent Hill community was invited to join our church for the final July supper, and the deacons coordinated a potluck, magic show, and water slide for the well attended gathering.  This outreach of food was continued in December when the deacons offered a simple meal during the visit by our Guatemalan guests.  Additionally, a new program was initiated for high school graduates called Stay the Course in which church volunteers contact high school graduates to encourage them to remember their faith in the initial years following high school.  The deacons also work with the ESL planning team to coordinate meals and programs for the ESL ministry.  Many of the deacon’s ministries could not be offered without assistance from  members of the congregation, and volunteers to participate in the Friendship Ministry, Stay the Course, After Church Refreshments, or Funeral Aid are always needed.  Please contact the church office if you are willing to help extend the compassion, witness, and service demonstrated by Jesus Christ to the CHPC family.
