Dear friends at Crescent
Hill Presbyterian Church,
Warm greetings from Yaounde,
Cameroon. In 2010 Christi and I celebrated twenty years of
service as mission co-workers with Presbyterian World
Missions. Not counting earlier volunteer service, we began in
beautiful Njombe, Tanzania. From there we headed west to
Zaire, which later regained the name Congo. Now, since nearly
12 years, we’re in Cameroon. We arrived in Tanzania with a
two-year old son and it looks like we’ll see our youngest,
Naomi, graduate high school in Yaounde, as did her older
brother and sister. We are truly blessed to have been able to
serve in Africa these past 20 years with our children. We are
thankful for the support and encouragement of Presbyterian
World Mission over the years. We know that alongside World
Mission has been an untold number of presbyteries, churches
and individuals supporting the mission work of the PC(USA). It
is in that light, and with much gratitude, that we recognize
the financial and moral support your church has given us
through World Mission.
Christi and I sincerely
thank you for the $1,600.00 you gave as financial support in
2010 through ECO 200314. We hope you are willing and able to
continue supporting us in 2011. We are thankful that we were
able to spend time with you in August, albeit far too short.
Please know that in the second half of 2012 we hope to be in
the US visiting churches. As that date gets closer we’ll send
you details so that we can arrange a visit. Hopefully, we’ll
be able to be based in Louisville as was the case in 2007.
As we consider the work for
2011 we ask that you pray with us for the following:
+ The threat to the
well-being of many as food prices rise world-wide. In
communities where we work in Central Africa food often
consumes the majority of the monthly budget. It is not that
people eat a lot, or eat richly; it is because they get paid
so little that they have little left over for other
necessities – like rent, school fees, health care, helping
neighbors, buy cloths, etc.
+ The change in leadership
in RELUFA and in the Joining Hands program. The coordinator
from RELUFA is leaving Cameroon to be the International
Coordinator of the Presbyterian Hunger Program, overseeing the
Joining Hand program. A RELUFA colleague is filling in as
interim coordinator. At the same time RELUFA is reorganizing..
There are a lot of changes and with them come challenges, also
for Christi.
+ Efforts to assist our
partners to respond effectively to the increased need for
comprehensive reporting about shared ministries.
+ New openings for
collaboration with the Eglise Presbyterienne Camerounaise (EPC).
Jeff is assisting the EPC as it looks for way information
technology can benefit its ministries.
+ For our three children as
they each concentrate on their studies and making strides
toward independence.
Again, we thank you for your
encouragement and support.
May God bless your
involvement in God’s mission near and far.
Sincerely,
Jeff and Christi Boyd
