Since its inception in 1948, the Crescent Hill Presbyterian Preschool has been a mission of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church (CHPC).  Under the care of the Outreach Council of the church, the preschool is welcomed and supported (and is able to operate rent-free).

The school was founded by Elizabeth Logsdon, long time member of CHPC and kindergarten teacher at Emmett Field Elementary School, the public elementary school in the neighborhood.  The Louisville Public School system had discontinued its kindergarten program for financial reasons.  This action greatly distressed the community.  Elizabeth Logsdon went door-to-door in the Crescent Hill neighborhood and asked parents with kindergarten-age children if they would be interested in a church kindergarten class at CHPC.  The response was a resounding yes!

Elizabeth Logsdon taught the kindergarten class at the church until kindergarten was reinstated in the public school system.  At that time, there were also 3 and 4-year old classes offered at our school and that program has been operating ever since. 

In the 1980s, the kindergarten program was once again eliminated from the public school system and the kindergarten teacher at Emmett Field Elementary School was once again hired at CHPC Preschool.  Kindergarten was added to the 3 and 4-year old program at CHPC Preschool and continued for about five years until, once again, the public school system added kindergarten to its curriculum.

Upon the request of parents, a program for two-year-olds was added to the preschool.  At the present time, there is a program for 3 and 4-year olds and a program for 2-year olds.

The school has maintained its loving and caring atmosphere through the years.  Its mission is to meet the needs of young children and to expand their minds.  We value diversity and are proud to be able to serve the children of the community, including families from Louisville Presbyterian Seminary and the Southern Baptist Seminary.  Teachers are able to give individual attention to each child since classes are intentionally kept small.  Because the preschool is a mission of Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church, we are able to keep tuition in an affordable range.
